Fire Awareness

While in the thick of the storm season we are thinking about rain and cleaning out our gutters and swells but we also need to think about this inside of our home and preventing fires there as well. Here is the list with 5 measures you should be taking annually.
1. Test your smoke alarms regularly
While not all of us are wonderful cooks and may test the alarms out more frequently than every year it is still something that needs to be done.
2. Inspect all of your heating sources
If your units are not working properly it can quickly cause an issue of smoke or fire in your home. You can do this yourself or have a professional come take a look for you.
3. Keep your stove and oven clean
Some of us neat freaks make sure to clean to stove a few times a week or after ever use but that is not always the case. The oven is a bit more tricky. Some ovens have a self cleaning setting you can use or you might have to get in there and put some elbow grease into it.
4.Don't leave you kitchen
If you are cooking food or have an appliance plugged in do not walk away. This is when a spontaneous fire normally happens.
5. Always check your dryer
Make sure the clean out the lint trap after every use as well as have your dryer vent cleaned every year. We often forget this but it is one of the biggest hazards in the home.
