Steps to Take to Reduce Water Damage to Your Home
Hurricane season is over, but a heavy rain can still wreak havoc on your home. If it's not the rain, a broken pipe or clogged drains can be just as dangerous to your property. Regardless of the source, flooding can quickly ruin parts of your home if you don't get rid of it. SERVPRO has decades of water removal experience to help you stop the clock on continuing damage and return your home (and you) back to its original state. It's why we maintain a 24-hour response team to meet any need in every crisis.
Time is critical to saving your Cocoa property from extended water damage. After you call us, there are a few things you can do before we arrive to both minimize the damage and enable us to get started faster. First, block the source of the water if you can and turn off the electricity. Do this only if it is safe; do not step into any water if the power is still on.
If you have any breakable or high-value items that you're concerned about, remove them outside of your home to a safe place. This also applies to smaller furniture items such as kitchen chairs. The larger the area our response team has to maneuver once we arrive means the quicker we can remove large furniture items out of your home, get our equipment in place and start pumping out the water.
Once our team gets in, they'll immediately begin pumping out the standing water. Our commercial grade pumps can remove water from even a large home in a matter of hours. Now, our technicians will deploy specialized water extractors. These devices are designed to draw water from carpets and wood floors without damaging the fibers or the floorboards. If there is padding underneath the carpet, it may be necessary for the response team to pull up the carpet to either dry or replace it depending on how soaked it might be.
Next, we'll test to see how high the moisture level is in your home. If it is too high, and typically it is, technicians will set up dehumidifiers to draw water from the air and lower levels to normal. Once that is accomplished, we'll move your large furniture items back into your home.
With highly trained personnel, an extensive inventory of the best equipment in the business and decades of experience, SERVPRO of New Smyrna Beach-Titusville is here to help you. Call us today at (321) 264-0205 to get started.
